Driving in Australia

You can drive with a foreign licence for your first three months in Australia However, if you intend on staying any longer, you will need to apply for an Australian driver’s licence. Driver’s licences are issued by state and territory governments. Once you have been granted a driver’s licences, you will be able to use that licence to drive in the other states and territories.

Below is a web link for each state and territory licensing authority:

Beachlivesaving

Australian Beaches

Australian beaches are recognised as some of the world’s most beautiful, with pristine blue clear waters and golden beaches. But care needs to be taken when swimming. Underwater currents known as “rips” can pull even experienced swimmers out to sea. This has resulted in drownings. If you are caught in a rip swim across it rather than against it. Other risks include submerged rocks, irregular water depths, boxing jelly fish and sharks.

Surf lifesavers patrol most of the popular beaches. They have received specialised training to help people who find themselves in trouble. You will know that a beach has lifesavers when you see red and yellow flags in the sand and the lifesavers will be wearing red and yellow swimsuits. The lifesavers will patrol between the red and yellow flags. If you swim outside these flags you may not be protected.
