Why choose Brisbane, student testimonials
Mateja Dokleja, Croatian
I studied a Master of Technology and Innovation Management and am now currently working as a Consultant for Portland Group a Procurement and Supply Chain Management Consultancy.
Brisbane and I initially met online and we clicked immediately – I fell in love with its climate, education institutions topping world’s rankings, support system given to students (which is so important when you are far away from home) and the proximity to other amazing Australian (and Pacific) destinations to explore. There was nobody happier than me when I finally boarded the plane and our long distance relationship became a real one and I could discover more things to fall in love with.
In my eyes, Brisbane is not big and flashy, it doesn’t have the Eiffel Tower nor the Great Wall. However, it does possess modest beauty which always makes me smile. My memories of Brisbane are in line with that, there is no one big moment that stands out, but a collection of little memories that all have special meaning to me. The collection might feature discovering amazing chocolate café in Paddington, hunting for forgotten treasures in antique shops or witnessing yet another sunrise over the river, but the most important thing is that the list keeps expanding as Brisbane continues to amaze me.
My advice to anyone thinking of studying in Brisbane would be very well contained in a saying “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”. Brisbane may be out of your comfort zone, it may be far away, different to home or expensive. However, Brisbane brings great rewards to those who dare to give it a chance, and I would encourage everyone to take that leap!
Xavier Villagonzalo, Philippines
I studied a Bachelor of Information Technology specialising in Business Process Management and based on initial contact with a company as a volunteer at Study Brisbane's annual City Welcome Festival, I have recently been hired as a full-time Customer Service Specialist with the Commonwealth Bank.
The supportive culture of its people made studying in Brisbane a good stepping stone to follow my dreams. I personally chose to study in Brisbane mainly because of its reputation as a “New World City”—its ability to capture the very essence of modernity. The field of academia is but one of the many things that Brisbane can truly be proud of being modern at the strictest sense of the word. Facilities that are second to none and teaching professionals that not only boast of their credentials but also have real practical skills that they help instil in their students to prepare them for the real world. Having read so many reviews about institutions of learning all over Australia, Brisbane ranked the highest on my preferences whilst I was back in the Philippines and with the help of my family I chose Brisbane as my place of study.
To all of you who are considering moving from overseas to study in Brisbane, allow me to borrow a line from a TV commercial: "When you think you can, YOU CAN!" You may need to come out of your comfort zone initially (moving overseas), but only to realise in the end you are already in the right zone and that's BRISBANE!
