Tommy and Kirsty Fox (Eyre Peninsula Region), Listya Mustafida (UCL) / Ally and Pete Smith (Yeppoon)
Kirsty fell in love with Tommy in Fremantle, Western Australia. Kirsty was from a farming family in Eyre Peninsular in South Australia, and Tommy was a brash young lad from a dairy farming family in Ireland. Both were on working holidays around the world, following a bereavement for Kirsty, and for Tommy – on a break, following a young life spent working hard to maintain the family farm.

Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula Region
The Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula region is a diverse area that is home to approximately 60,000 people. It covers around 233,000 square kilometres, an area equal to 24% of the State of South Australia. The region extends from Spencer Gulf in the east across the Great Australian Bight to the border with Western Australia.
Cities in the region include Whyalla, a major centre for heavy industry and Port Lincoln, an iconic fishing and tourism centre.b The region’s economy is diverse with agriculture, manufacturing, fishing, aquaculture and tourism the pre-dominant areas of economic activity. The mining sector and renewable energy are growth sectors that add to this activity base.
Facilities in the region include 38 government schools and 24 pre-schools, the State’s largest regional university campus operated by the University of South Australia and 3 major Technical and Further Education campuses at Whyalla, Port Lincoln and Ceduna with smaller facilities at Wudinna, Cleve and Kimba. In addition, there are a number of research facilities including the Minnipa Agricultural Centre, the Lincoln Marine Science Centre and the Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy.

South Australia
South Australia has the lowest living costs and the most affordable housing of any mainland Australian state. Average Weekly Earnings for adults in May 2013 stood at approximately $1285 while the median price of housing in Adelaide is around $395,000, well below the median price of housing in other mainland states and the average of $490,000 for all capital cities. There are few experiences in life parallel to the surreal opportunity of swimming with pods of wild dolphins and sea lions as they frolic in their home waters, playing and diving around you for the thrill of a lifetime. Or to get the blood pumping, take a dip with 50 kilogram tuna as they dart around you at lightning speed. Observe the amazing ‘chameleons of the sea’ – Giant cuttlefish – as you snorkel or dive in the protected waters near Whyalla.
There are several operators who’ll escort you out into the water for an up-close experience. If you would rather stay dry, there are also excellent cruise options available enabling you to spot sea lions and fur seals tucked away on nearby rugged islands, all from the comfort of a boat.
For those seeking a real adrenaline rush, give cage diving in the waters south of Port Lincoln a shot and come nose-to-nose with a Great White shark.

Meander along the picturesque foreshore through natural bushland, from the caravan park to Crinoline Point and the lookout in Kellidie Bay, on the delightful eight-kilometre Oyster Walk, which includes several bridges and is wheelchair accessible. Along the walk there are three public barbecues: next to

Coffin Bay
Renowned for its world-famous oysters and home to one of the most stunning estuaries in Australia, Coffin Bay is a popular holiday spot – its annual population swells from 500 to 3000 plus every summer. The pristine, calm waters are perfect for sailing, swimming, waterskiing and skin diving; while its meandering waterways, bays, channels and inlets are ideal for rock, surf, jetty and boat fishing. On-shore there’s Coffin Bay National Park to explore, as well as a golf course with resident kangaroos and lawnbowls.
